Monks Sweep Dean in Double Header

Dean dropped both games of a doubleheader at Saint Joseph’s College of Maine on Monday afternoon. In game one, the Bulldogs were unable to maintain their first-inning lead and fell 10-3. Dean got the scoring going thanks to an RBI single from Brayden McLaughlin, but then the Monks tied it in the second before taking the lead in the third after scoring off a passed ball and never looked back.

Luke Stephens had three hits, scored two runs, and drove in one. Jackson Stanton and Terry Morrissey also both had multiple hits in the win. Ethan Smith started for the Monks lasting 3.2 innings allowing six hits, one run, and striking out three. The winning pitcher was Brendan McCaffrey, who pitched 1.1 scoreless innings in relief.

Brian Dovidio and Brayden McLaughlin each had three hits for Dean, with McLaughlin driving in all three Bulldog runs. Zach Handfield was the losing pitcher in game one, throwing three innings allowing five hits, surrendering three runs, two earned, and walking one.

In game two, the Bulldogs lost 8-5 after rallying late but came up short. Dean did not score in the first seven innings in this game, but they scored a run in the eighth and then added four more in the ninth. Both teams had ten hits in the game, with Dean making two errors to Saint Joseph’s five.

Matt Thibault had four hits, scored three runs, and drove in five thanks to his second home run of the season, coming off the two-run variety in the eighth inning. Jackson Stanton and Jared Wilhelm also both had multi-hit games. As a team, the Monks stole four bases in game two. Jason Johnson got his first win of the season after throwing seven scoreless innings, allowing five hits, and striking out seven.

Brian Dovidio and Gavin Goss both had three hits in the loss for Dean. Dovidio had six total hits on the day. Carlos Silva hit a pinch-hit three-run home run in the ninth inning, it was his first of the season. Jacob Salvatore started and was given the loss throwing 5.2 innings, allowing seven hits, six runs, three earned, walking two, and striking out one. Dean will now host Lesley University tomorrow at 3:30
