Sports Illustrated reporter Albert Breer broke the news Saturday that all signs were pointing toward the Patriots hiring DeMarcus Covington. This information was later released on the Patriots' social media. The Pats have found their second major staff hire this year, also being promoted in-house.

Covington was hired by the Patriots in 2017 as a coaching assistant, where he worked for two years and earned a Super Bowl Fifty-Three ring. Covington was then named the Outside Linebackers Coach in 2019 and then the Defensive Line Coach in 2020.

Covington played College Football from 2007 to 2010 in the NCAA Division I Championship Subdivision for Samford, where he graduated in 2011.

Having held multiple positions across seven seasons in which the Patriots have consistently been a top-ranked defense should keep fans excited for Covington to take control of the defense this season. Covington will be working with Pro Bowler Matthew Judon and rookie defensive stud Christian Gonzalez returning from injury.
