Nichols Roll Past Bulldogs

Nate Potter

FRANKLIN, MA- The Dean College Bulldogs Women’s Lacrosse team fell to the Nichols College Bison 24-7 at Grant Field on Thursday afternoon after an 8-point outing from Hadley Houghton.

Nichols started off hot scoring three consecutive goals all through Houghton who scored two and assisted the third to teammate Emma Patton.

The Bulldogs found life after a Nichols penalty allowed Haley Gaunt to roll around the crease and score the first goal of the game for the Bulldogs. Only two minutes later Gaunt would score her second of the game off an assist from Caroline Ramsey to cut the Bison lead to only one.

It seemed as if the Bulldogs had found a rhythm until Houghton once again scored back-to-back goals only 30 seconds apart, both were unassisted. Nichols went on to score five more unanswered goals through Patton, Makala Dube, Caitlin Welch, and two more Houghton goals to make the score 10-2.

With only three minutes left in the quarter, Nina Medeiros was able to find a cutting Natalie Peterson who was able to finish off the play for the third Bulldog goal of the game. Bison goals from Houghton, Patton, and Kristen Ruby would end the first quarter with a score of 13-3.

Dean wouldn’t score another goal until Peterson would gather the ball, make a move into the left side of the box, and place a shot into the top right corner. However, the goal would only be a consolation as the Bison had already racked up a 21-4 lead.

With five minutes left in the game, the Bison would take another penalty in which Gaunt would once again score assisted by Medeiros. Gaunt, who is creeping up on the all-time scoring list for Dean College Women’s Lacrosse, would score her fourth of the game which was unassisted. Medeiros would score the last goal of the game off an assist from Alisha Caldeira to make the final score 24-7.

The Bulldogs fall to 1-1 and will play host to the Norwich University Cadets on Saturday, March 9th at 3pm on Grant Field.
