As we reach the one-year anniversary of the beginning of the COVID-19 lockdown in the United States, President Joe Biden made an address to the country on Thursday. During the speech, President Biden stated, “All adult Americans will be eligible to get a vaccine no later than May 1, that’s much earlier than expected”. To clarify, President Biden is stating that every adult in the United States will be able to register and sign up to receive their vaccines, but he also stated that every adult would be able to get their first shot by the end of May. As of March 17th, the United States is administering an average of 2.44 million doses of the vaccine per day. At this rate, which continues to grow, will bring us to the goal of vaccinating the general public by the end of May. According to vox.com, the average doses administered per day could wind up over 3.3 million per day as shipments increase. With these numbers, it is entirely possible to vaccinate the entire population that is willing to get the vaccine as soon as the end of May. Biden also stated, “It will make this Independence Day truly special, where we not only mark our independence as a nation but our independence from this virus,”. The overall goal Biden wanted to make was to be able to have the United States back to normal by the time the 4th of July comes around, so the nation can celebrate together as one.

Massachusetts has also just announced that all the general public ages 16 and up will be able to receive the COVID-19 vaccine by April 19th, well ahead of the May 1st deadline set by President Biden. Also, Governor Charlie Baker stated that anyone ages 60 and up along with “COVID-19 facing essential workers” will be able to receive the vaccine by March 22, and on April 5 anyone who is age 55 and up or with one comorbidity will be eligible. Gov. Baker said, "We all know that the anxiety that is created by this process can be stressful for many people, and we hope that this clarity will help everybody plan ahead and know what to expect and when,". Anyone looking forward to getting their vaccine as soon as possible in Massachusetts can pre-register by clicking HERE to get notified when you are eligible quickly.
