After a 36-25 record in the 2021-2022 season, the Providence Bruins will soon take the ice for the upcoming 2022-2023 year.
Last season, Providence finished third in their division and seventh in the Eastern Conference, clinching the playoffs for the eighth consecutive year. Despite Providence’s strong season, they were swept in the first round of the 2022 Calder Cup Playoffs in a best-of-three series by the Bridgeport Islanders.
In the shortened 2021-2022 season, skilled talent from a few players contributed to the team’s success. Wing Cameron Hughes played at a remarkably high level offensively. In fifty-nine games played, Hughes produced thirty-one assists and scored fourteen goals, leading him to forty-five total points for the season. Last season was Hughes' fifth year in the AHL, all with the Bruins.
Wing Steven Fogarty was another notable contributor in his first year with the Providence Bruins. Fogarty completed thirty assists and scored twelve goals in his sixty-two games to finish with forty-two total points for the season.
Defensively, Jack Ahcan thrived with seventeen assists, six goals, and twenty-three points. Aaron Ness also flourished with sixteen assists and three goals, finishing the year with nineteen overall points.
Goalie Troy Grosenick finished a strong season with a 16-6 record behind the net in thirty games.
The Providence Bruins will be on the road for their first game of the season, facing the Springfield Thunderbirds on Friday, October 7th, at 7:05.
