Republicans Aim to Investigate the Biden Family: Will it Accomplish Anything?

In the first two years of the Biden Presidency, the United States has seen rapidly increasing inflation, violent crime, and the continuation of a broken immigration system. With the failures of the Biden Administration, the Republicans had a perfect opportunity for a red wave in the midterms to take back the House and the Senate. Although the Republicans had their work cut out for them, they barely managed to win back the House but lost control of the Senate.

Now that the Republicans have control of the House, they plan to crack down on President Biden's son, Hunter, and his ties to foreign governments. The Department of Justice is currently investigating Hunter Bidens business dealings with foreign governments while serving as a US lobbyist. This investigation is long overdue, as no matter what political party someone is a member of or how wealthy they are, no one should be exempt from the law.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time American government officials have been investigated for their affairs with foreign governments. In 2019, President Donald Trump was impeached for his attempts to allegedly coerce foreign nations to interfere in the 2020 Presidential Election before being acquitted. Although this investigation of Biden's son is undoubtedly justified, will it change anything?

It is unlikely that much will change, as the Republicans control the House, and the Democrats control the Senate. If the Republicans impeach President Biden for his involvement in his son's activities, the Democrats will likely acquit President Biden. An impeachment happened with Trump before, and Biden will possibly face something similar when the Republicans officially take back the House in 2023.

With the current state of political polarization in the United States, not much is likely to change. Both major parties will defend their own when their character is called into question, and it seems that accountability does not matter in American politics. Unfortunately, every politician who steps foot in Washington either has baggage from their past or accumulates it when they take power, no matter if it is a "D" or an "R" next to their name.
