Second Half Struggles Cost Dean Football

FRANKLIN—The Dean College football team lost to Anna Maria College 36-22 on Saturday afternoon at Dale Lippert Field.

Dean quarterback Mozes Mooney was 18-46, which was good for 198 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception.

Jordan Mason led the Dean receivers with six receptions for seventy-nine yards and one touchdown. On the defensive end for the Bulldogs, Dennis Jennings led the team with twelve tackles.

The Bulldogs found themselves in an early 14-0 deficit thanks to a forty-nine-yard touchdown run by Ryan Russell on the second play of the game. Anna Maria scored again as Dean tried punting on their first possession but fumbled the snap deep in their own territory, which was recovered by the AMCATS

Dean got on the board with a twenty-five-yard touchdown reception in the corner of the endzone by Quintus Reid to make it 14-7. The Bulldogs scored again later in the quarter on a safety as the ball went out of the endzone on a punt by Anna Maria. Dean also made a field goal to make it 14-12.

The Bulldogs took their first lead of the game at 15-14 thanks to a thirty-three-yard field goal by Nikolai Luksch with 5:52 left in the third quarter.

The AMCATS retook the lead when Jacob Buccola had a six-yard rushing touchdown with thirty-six seconds left in the third quarter. Anna Maria converted on a two-point conversion to make it 22-15 at the end of the third quarter.

The AMCATS added to their lead thanks to a fifty-one-yard touchdown reception by Devin Tolbert to make it 29-15.

Dean responded with a three-yard touchdown reception by Jordan Mason to make it 29-22 with 9:06 left in the fourth quarter.

Anna Maria put seven more on the board thanks to a seventy-seven-yard touchdown reception by Tolbert.

Anna Maria quarterback Ryan Russell was 8-13, which was good for 163 yards and two touchdowns.

Devin Tolbert led the Anna Maria wide receivers with eight receptions which were good for 186 yards and two touchdowns. Khalil Bowens led the Anna Maria running backs with eighty-three yards and a touchdown.

On the defensive end, Sam Jakana led Anna Maria with six tackles and a half-sack.

Dean, 1-8, will have their final game of the season next Saturday on Senior Day versus Keystone College at noon.
