Two Dean College men’s lacrosse teammates and brothers have been recognized by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference for their recent play. Diego Alvarez-Segee has been named the GNAC Conference Player of the Week and Manny Alvarez-Segee has been named the GNAC Freshman of the Week.
Diego led the Bulldogs with 16 points and 11 goals in a 1-1 week. The senior started the season with a five-goal and one assist showing in a tough 16-14 loss at Manhattanville. However, he finished the week on Saturday with a game-best 10 points on six goals and four assists in their 19-10 win at Southern Maine.
“It’s always nice to get recognized for having a good week. Hopefully I can keep helping the team so we can keep winning,” Diego said.
Manny was right behind his brother as he had 14 points, nine goals, and six assists in the first week. He also recorded the second most groundballs at 11. In his Dean debut, he finished with a team-best of nine points, five goals, and four assists at Manhattanville.
“It brought a smile to my face. I am hoping to contribute to the team in any way I can,” Manny said.
The brother connection also runs deep in the Segee family. It has always been a dream for both of them to play together but COVID-19 took that away from them at first as the pandemic hit two weeks before their high school season began. “It’s honestly a dream come true… to be able to compete in college athletics and now playing alongside my brother is something I’ve always wanted to do,” Diego explained.
“I’ve always looked up to my brother and the way he played this sport… being able to play with him here at Dean is my lifelong dream come true and I’ve never been more thankful for an opportunity,” Manny talked about.
Dean will play their home opener on Wednesday, March 6th versus Curry College on Grant Field at 3 p.m
