The inauguration is the peaceful transfer of power between two presidents. With the swearing-in of Joseph R. Biden and Kamala D. Harris, the inauguration attracted many people to tune into the day-long news coverage from stations such as MSNBC and CNN. Many people were excited about this inauguration because Joe Biden has been Vice President under Barack Obama and Kamala Harris is the first Black, African, and Indian American woman to serve as Vice President. Together they “Made History” as they spread the message to every little girl out there that anything is possible.
With the inauguration being one of the most talked-about subjects, let's talk about a hot topic of the day, fashion! From people like Michelle Obama styling a magenta-hued jumpsuit with black boots to Bernie Sanders wearing his gray coat and mittens his grandma probably made him. Still to this day, people are still talking about their clothes. So, let's dive into the details.
Let’s start off with Michelle Obama. She is wearing a magenta jumpsuit with a matching turtleneck paired with a gold belt and black leather gloves. The whole outfit is from according to marieclaire.com, “Sergio Hudson, a Black designer from South Carolina.” She also paired her look with a black silk mask from Christy Rilling. Last but certainly not least, the most talked-about outfit worn by Bernie Sanders. He is wearing a gray coat, black dress pants with brown dress shoes with the infamous knitted gloves. Buzzfeed news reporter Ruby Cramer says, “Sanders wore the same mittens on the campaign trail during his failed presidential bid.” It is also said that the mittens were given to Bernie Sander two years ago by a teacher from Essex Junction Vermont, Jen Ellis. According to Buzzfeed News, the teacher states the mittens were made “from repurposed wool sweaters” and lined them with “fleece made from recycled plastic bottles.” Not even hours after the inauguration, many people created TikToks, Instagram, and Twitter memes about Bernie's outfit choice. Freelance writer Clare Malone tweeted “Bernie dressed to stand in line at the post office,” according to the New York Post. Many people mocked him for carrying a manila envelope.
