The Importance of Voting

Two weeks from today on November 8th, the United States Midterm Elections will take place. Across the country, each state has several seats that will be up for the taking. In Massachusetts, the governorship will be up for grabs between Democrat Attorney General Maura Healey and former Republican State Representative Geoff Diehl.

This year's midterm race comes nearly two years after the inauguration of President Joe Biden. Millions of Americans have expressed displeasure with the Biden Administration and will likely vote against the Democrat Party. The most pressing issues facing the United States today are a historically high inflation rate, abortion rights, law and order, foreign policy, and much more.

The midterm elections may not garner as much attention as the Presidential election, but they are still important. Several states will be electing or reelecting representatives in their state to represent them nationally and to improve the current state of the country. Not every issue can be solved overnight, but electing the right person is necessary to get things moving at the federal and state levels.

American democracy relies on the people getting out to vote, but there is only so much the people can control. Politicians often betray their ideals and make false promises so they can get elected. Many politicians are not only untrustworthy but aggressively align with their parties and destroy common ground.

This year's midterm race will continue to see polarization in American politics, as politicians of both parties cannot seem to agree on much. Both the Republican and Democratic parties consistently vote against one another, which is why real political progress has been slow for decades now. Maybe this time around, the right people will be elected, and no matter what political party they are, they will work across party lines to rebuild America.
