The Dean College Women’s Lacrosse team was defeated for the first time on Grant Field this season by the St. Joseph’s Monks 20-8. The Bulldogs fall to 3-2 on the season, as the Monks advance to 5-2, and 3-0 in the GNAC.

Graduate attacker Lydia Dexter torched the Bulldogs for five goals on the afternoon, along with two assists and five ground balls. Sophomore midfielders, Shauna Clark and Mackenzie Siebert also had tremendous days, scoring three goals and two assists each. Dean kept pace with St. Joseph during the opening thirteen minutes, crawling back from 2-0 down to take a 4-3 lead, as Sophomore attacker Haley Gaunt scored three of the first four goals by the Bulldogs. Gaunt now has eleven goals in four games and is on pace to set a new career high and surpass her total of sixteen last season. Senior attacker Jazzy Sztyler-Magee also notched three goals and an assist.

The close affair became out of reach quickly, with the game tied at seven. St Joseph would pick up momentum and keep the position for the back half of the second quarter and most of the third quarter, scoring thirteen straight goals. The Monks’ defense was also superb, allowing one second-half goal, forcing eighteen turnovers, and earning twenty ground balls.

Dean College will look to shake off the cobwebs against Simmons College this Saturday at 1:00 PM, beginning a three-game road trip. The Bulldogs will return to Grant Field on Friday, March 31st, in a GNAC matchup against Colby-Swayer College.
