The Dean Women’s Basketball hosted the Emmanuel Saints on Thursday night and were defeated by a score of 106-31.
The Bulldogs got off to a very cold start, as the Saints went on a 9-3 run, and never looked back. The Saints kept the ball moving, slicing and dicing through the Bulldogs defense, bringing the ball to the paint and establishing a consistent rhythm from 3, as they went 14-22 during the first quarter. The Bulldogs found themselves in a hole, with turnovers galore and no response for the Saints front court press defense.
The Bulldogs second quarter was much like the first, as more turnovers where committed, and Emmanuel capitalizing on opportunities. The Bulldogs offense, led by Cat Thomas, where able to find some points, but those didn’t help the Bulldogs close the gap, as the Saints went into the half with a thirty-point lead.
The second half for the Bulldogs was less than ideal, only scoring 6 points for the entire half, as even more turnovers hurt the Bulldogs chances of closing the gap. The Bulldogs couldn’t find the net until late in the third quarter, with a jumper from Tori Viau. The Saints put an emphasis on controlling the glass, limiting second chance points for the Bulldogs, as the Saints continued to run away with the lead.
The dominance of the Saints culminated into a 106-31 win. Emmanuel’s top scorer was first year forward Kalia Saunders, who finished the game with 16 points and 10 rebounds. The Bulldog’s top scorer was none other than Tori Viau, who capped off the night with 12 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 assist.
The Bulldogs finish the year on Saturday, as Senior Day festivities commence with their final home game against GNAC opponent Saint Joseph’s College of Maine. Tipoff is set for 1:00pm, the first of a senior day double header for Dean.
