In the United States, the month of February is Black History Month. This is the month we celebrate African American accomplishments, culture and history. Here at Dean College, there are several events happening around campus.



Of Ebony Embers-Vignettes of the Harlem Renaissance

February 24th3:30 PM


On Wednesday, February 24th, Of Ebony Embers will be the main discussion. Of Ebony Embers consists of three African American poets, these being Langston Hughes, Countee Cullen and Claude McKay visualized by painter Aaron Douglas. The script is written by Akin Babatunde.

Tobey S. Stein

February 25th7:00 PM


On Thursday, February 25th, two time Fulbright Specialist Tobey S. Stein Ph.D will be speaking. Stein is the author of five books such as Racial and Ethnic Diversity in the Performing Arts workforce and Leadership in the Performing Arts.


Black Excellence Gala

February 27th7:00 PM


On Saturday, February 27th, the annual Black Excellence Gala will take place. The annual gala will be a night full of spectacular performances to celebrate Black excellence here at Dean College and in the United States featuring current students, alumni and a guest speaker. The gala will once again be hosted by MyBlackSpeaks and the Black Student Union.
