Dean College has seen many changes in its leadership recently, and soon, it will see a change in its safety department. On June 1st, Dean College will officially launch the Campus Police and Safety Department, a single entity formed from campus safety and law enforcement services.
This decision was made to create a department more familiar with the campus culture and simultaneously aiming to establish a stronger relationship with local law enforcement. To accomplish these goals, all members of the new Campus Police and Safety Department will be trained and equipped with the necessary resources to ensure peace and safety on campus.
The transition to a new safety department has been led by Dean staff members Chief Ken Corkran, Captain Erica Abro, and Lieutenant Steve DeJoie. On Wednesday, April 26th, Dean will officially swear in their first two Campus Police Sergeants at 9:00 AM in Marvin Chapel.
Dean College previously had a police force on campus as recently as 2015 but opted to hire the private security firm TeamOps after an alleged union-busting scandal.
