Dear, First Years

The transition to college life can be difficult. Trying to find a new routine getting used to classes, extracurriculars, peers, and time for yourself can be overwhelming. It takes time. Dean College acknowledges that and strives for the student body to do its best work.

During the first year, Freshmen can learn about tips for optimal well-being and to lessen the anxieties of transitioning to a new lifestyle. Almost every Friday, there are different sessions for first-years to be given methods of stress relievers.

Healthy habits, meditation advice, peer relationships are a few factors students can get guidance on. The pandemic brought more realization to this topic as it brought another stressor to an already anxiety-inducing life transition.

Just as academic achievement is critical for success at college, interest in mental and physical health is important too. A commitment to maintain the health of body and mind has multiple benefits to a student’s academic accomplishments.

The sessions are another opportunity to be around new and familiar faces. It is an additional chance to be with the Dean community as a first-year before getting involved so you can ease up into other commitments that Dean provides for students.

If anything, First Year Fridays is a great chance to get some insight on what it is like being a student at Dean such as the lifestyle and reaching goals either for a relationship with peers or self and academic.
