Getting to Know Professor Gregg Seibert

Dean College has plenty of excellent professors, but only a few are as positive, passionate, and caring as Professor Gregg Seibert. Professor Seibert is one of three professors who oversees the Dean College communications program daily alongside Professor Vic Michaels, John Rooke, and Pete Leger, the facility manager who also works for the program. Students say Seibert is unique because he guides them through assignments and projects and does not judge them if the student makes a mistake.

Professor Seibert teaches video and studio filmmaking skills to students from freshman through senior year. He began his teaching career as a guest lecturer at Dean, which he discovered while visiting Bridgewater State University. Not long after, he applied to work as an adjunct faculty member at Dean College, which then turned into a full-time position. It was a fantastic opportunity for Professor Seibert and a great work environment.

Seibert describes the communication program as “hardworking, career-driven, and enjoyable.” In the program, students have many opportunities to gain hands-on experience by working in the digital studio and completing small group projects that help them apply the skills they learn in class to help them in their careers after college. The digital studio space is a family-like community where students support one another and make sure everyone feels included in every project.

When asked why students should consider Communications as a major, Professor Seibert states, "communications works for any career path you are interested in pursuing. It provides a voice to students that need to express themselves. Additionally, it provides confidence and polish to individuals that want to work on those areas of their persona." Professor Seibert believes anyone can major in communications and pursue communications in various career paths.

Seibert also advises a club for communication students called Dean News Network. Dean News Network is a student organization that enables students to take over the studio and record amusing segments or discuss sports or campus events weekly or the following week. Seibert also teaches Dean TV, a course for communications students and others interested in filming campus and sporting events. Dean TV was established to live stream games so students and community members can watch these events if they cannot attend in person.

In addition to his work at Dean, Gregg owns a private company named Purple Turtle Productions, Inc. He collaborates closely with his son Alex and his wife Barbara when he is not teaching at Dean College.

Professor Seibert believes that Dean College is a fantastic place to be and that the Communications program is a community where the professors and other students support each other on their journey throughout college with knowledge and guidance. Professor Seibert states that "students need to be comfortable with their choices in a college, and every college is not for every student, however, if students want a small college focusing on a liberal arts degree, Dean is a great place to be." He works hard to ensure that every student can perform at their highest level and use their skills after graduating from Dean College.
