Every school year, WGAO’s Power 88.3 FM does several remote broadcasts. On Saturday, October 5th, Power 88.3 was featured outside the Campus Center to support Discover Dean Day. The weather was beautiful, and the sun shone while Discover Dean Day started. The General Manager and four Student Directors for Power 88.3 helped make the set-up of the remote broadcast possible.

The people in the Power 88.3 photograph (from left to right) are Tyler Lawton (Senior, Promotions Director), David Usher (Senior, Production Director), Rachel Geddes (Junior, Training Director), and Vic Michaels (Associate Professor of Communications, and General Manager). Also involved in the broadcast was me, the Assistant Production Director [not shown in the photograph above].

The student directors for Power 88.3 had lots of fun talking at the remote broadcast as they were able to talk about a range of topics on the airwaves. For the Introduction Break, the student directors talked about the Discover Dean Day and how nice the weather outside was. Next, the student directors talked about sports. I talked about the New England Patriots deciding not to start RB Rhamondre Stevenson vs. the Dolphins, and Rachel covered the Boston Bruins’s upcoming season. After that, Tyler, David, and Rachel covered the fascinating story of a bear finding himself a home inside a California resident’s crawlspace.

Then Tyler, David, and Rachel talked about their memories of attending Fall Festivals. For the fifth break, Rachel covers the weather for that Saturday night and the day after. To close the first remote broadcast for Power 88.3, Rachel thanks everyone for listening to the remote.

The student directors did an amazing job talking on the airwaves for Discover Dean Day. They all had very entertaining and exciting stories to bring to each break. The next remote broadcast for Power 88.3 is expected to be next month November 9th on Veterans Day, which also supports another Discover Dean Day.
