With a career already in mind, first-year Dean College student Luc Goodnow shares goals he hopes to achieve in four years as an exercise science major.
Like many other freshmen, settling into a new college is known to be a huge adjustment. Goodnow could relate and explained how the first couple of weeks on campus marked a big transition. After initially having feelings of homesickness and excitement, by mid-October, he stated he was “good to go” as he was becoming more familiar with the campus.
In hopes of becoming a personal trainer, Goodnow’s passion for professional sports played a role in his choice to pursue exercise science at Dean and as a career. Goodnow further explained how sports related to both those desired selections.
“I chose exercise science because I've been an athlete my whole life. I love to get exercise, and it just makes me feel better, not just physically, but the mental aspect of it and my overall well-being.”
After sharing insight on his reasoning for his major, Goodnow explained why he believes personal training specifically would be an excellent match. He believes his strong ability to communicate with others would benefit him if becoming a personal trainer.
When asked if there are any specific job opportunities he could see himself taking on, he mentioned sports broadcasting or other potential involvements in the sports field.
“I can think I have the potential of being a good commentator. I know a lot about sports, the history of them, and I think that will help out a lot with that.”
With three more academic years to come, Goodnow plans to learn more about how to become an effective personal trainer.
