Everyone holds an exciting passion, and for freshman Jason Wilson, that would be sports. Growing up in Westchester, New York, Wilson saw Dean College and its sports broadcasting program as an exciting opportunity to pursue.
Adjustments from one state to another can sometimes be challenging, but Wilson described the transition to Dean to be “not that bad”. Already familiar with the Boston area, Wilson noted that it was just mainly getting used to the customs.
Wilson spoke that his desire for sports broadcasting began when he was younger. As someone who has always enjoyed arguing and having the ability to say, “Hey, I’m right”, he realized that this was his match. As time went on, many people regularly began questioning him about sports, specifically about basketball.
Wilson has always shared a meaningful connection with basketball. He noted it was his favorite sport to broadcast by stating, "I believe the one that I really do enjoy in both ends is basketball. It's always been my favorite. It's got a special history, and it's always been close to my heart”.
With numerous opportunities in the sports broadcasting world, Wilson typically works as a color announcer, play-by-play commentator, and a sideline or halftime reporter at Dean. Of his various positions, Jason highlighted the sideline and boomer reporting as both his favorites because he can script up his own material.
When asked what he envisions himself doing once he graduates, Wilson mentioned that it is something related to the radio. He labeled radio as another big excitement of his and hopes to one day host a TV show as a talk show host since he enjoys live interviews.
Wilson recognized Dean’s community as a major part of the school’s whole saying, “the community is a huge part of Dean that I've always enjoyed. I say that as if I've been here for years”.
Wilson also acknowledged the Dean professors by stating, “I mean, all the professors out there have been phenomenal, and they've been helpful and all you need to do is just ask for help, and they will help”.
