The COVID-19 pandemic that broke out in February of 2020 seemed like it would last forever. The United States went on lockdown for several months before reopening with many strict rules. These rules included mandatory face masks in many states and social distancing.
After shutting down in 2020, Dean College reopened with strict enforcement of COVID-19 protocols in 2021. These rules included weekly testing, face masks, and social distancing regardless of vaccination status.
Dean College will officially loosen its rules on February 28th. The wearing of face masks on campus will now be optional for all vaccinated individuals. This decision comes with a low rate of positive COVID-19 cases on campus and guidance from the CDC.
Although masks are now optional, there are still some settings where they are still mandatory that includes the following:
In exercise science, science, paramedic, and EMT labs
When testing at Thayer Barn
For audience members at dance and theatre performances
Although masks are now optional, weekly COVID-19 testing is still mandatory for students, faculty, and staff. Aside from testing, all spectators of athletic events and performances must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
